• The Partido Demokratiko Pilipino–Lakas ng Bayan (PDP–Laban) is a major political party in the Philippines, known for its populist and federalist political agenda. It was founded in 1982 during the martial law period under Ferdinand Marcos, emerging from the merger of the Partido Demokratiko Pilipino (PDP) and Lakas ng Bayan (Laban), two opposition groups that resisted the authoritarian regime. The party played a significant role in the People Power Revolution of 1986, which led to the ousting of Marcos and the restoration of democratic governance in the Philippines.
  
  PDP–Laban's core values are rooted in the principles of democracy, social justice, and national sovereignty. It advocates for a federal form of government, aiming to decentralize power to address the uneven development and inequality among the regions in the Philippines. The party also emphasizes the importance of a moral and accountable leadership, promoting policies that are intended to uplift the poor and marginalized sectors of society.
  
  Throughout its history, PDP–Laban has undergone various transformations, aligning with different political figures and agendas. It has been the party of several Philippine Presidents, including Rodrigo Duterte, whose controversial but popular presidency from 2016 to 2022 was marked by a strong anti-drug campaign and efforts to shift the country towards federalism. Despite criticisms and challenges, PDP–Laban remains a significant force in Philippine politics, continually advocating for its foundational principles while adapting to the changing political landscape.
